Ogham Divination Guide
What is Ogham Divination?
Ogham is an ancient Celtic tree alphabet system originating in 4th-century Ireland. The earliest Ogham inscriptions were carved on stone monuments for commemorative and territorial purposes. Druid priests developed it into a sacred divination tool, with each stave corresponding to a sacred tree—such as Birch (Beith) symbolizing new beginnings and Oak (Duir) representing strength. Medieval Irish manuscripts like the "Ogham Tract" record the legend that Ogham was created by Ogma, the god of eloquence, to convey secrets only the wise could decipher. With 25 staves divided into 4 main groups (5 each) plus 5 additional forfeda, this Celtic cultural heritage is ideal for seeking life guidance and inner exploration rather than simple yes/no answers.
How to Divine Properly?
- Use open-ended questions, like "What guidance do you have for my situation"
- Focus your attention during the ritual phase; let your intent resonate with the staves
- Choose single oracle or Three Rays spread (Past · Present · Future)
- Pay attention to each stave's corresponding tree characteristics and elemental meanings
- Ogham is not suited for simple yes/no questions; avoid binary inquiries
