Liu Yao Wealth Reading: How to Judge Incoming Money and Loss

Many people cast a Liu Yao hexagram about money hoping for two words: gain or loss. A useful reading is not a single lucky label. It is a map of structure: where money can enter, where it leaks, and whether you can hold it. Wealth questions are usually concrete: Will this payment arrive? Is this investment suitable now? Will there be a sudden expense? Will the bonus land?

In Shao Yong’s spirit of “observing things through things,” the worst habit is stuffing desire and anxiety into the chart first. Do not begin with “Can I get rich?” Begin with “What is the structure of this sum, this period, this decision?” Once the structure is visible, gain and loss stop being slogans and become relationships you can check.

The most common wealth-reading mistake is asking too broadly. Instead of “How is my money luck this year?”, ask “Can this client’s final payment arrive this month?” or “Does this investment risk returning capital?” The narrower the question, the clearer the Wife-Wealth, Sibling, and Self–Response lines become.

1. Split the question: gain, loss, and holding money are not the same

“Wealth luck” covers at least three different problems. If you mix them, even a strong Wealth line is easy to misread.

TypeTypical questionFocus
Incoming moneyWill this payment / bonus arrive?Wealth line strength, support to Self, Parents as documents/news
Loss / leakageSudden expense? Capital drawdown?Sibling line attacking Wealth, empty/retreating Wealth, injured Self
Holding moneyCan I keep what arrives? Save or move?Self capacity, whether Wealth is seized, Officer pressure, moving lines

Incoming money asks whether external wealth can enter. Loss asks whether expected or existing wealth is seized or drained. Holding asks whether you have capacity to receive and stabilize the resource. Before casting, narrow the object, the time window, and whether you need a result or an action strategy.

2. The Wife-Wealth line is central — strength is not automatic profit

In Liu Yao, the Wife-Wealth line (Wealth line) commonly represents money, revenue, goods, receivables, and asset targets. First locate it: which line, five-phase strength, moving or still, empty or not, advancing or retreating, and how it relates to Self.

Helpful “incoming money” structures include: a strong Wealth line generating or combining with Self, or moving to generate Self; a Parents line (contracts, notices, paperwork) moving to generate Wealth or Self; a Response line generating Self while Wealth remains strong. These are more useful than merely noticing that a Wealth line exists.

A strong Wealth line does not automatically mean you will profit. If Wealth is strong but controls or clashes Self, the opportunity may be large yet stressful or hard to hold. If Wealth is strong but empty, it may be visible but delayed. If Wealth transforms to retreat or emptiness, beware shrinkage after the appearance of arrival. Liu Yao’s value is splitting “is there money?” into “is money in position, can it reach you, and can you keep it?”

3. The Sibling line and loss: leakage often starts here

In wealth charts, the Sibling line often marks competition, cost, shared profit, spending, and internal drain. A strong moving Sibling line attacking Wealth is the classic “seizure of wealth” image: a competitor takes the deal, costs rise, partnership splits unevenly, a loan is hard to recover, or impulsive spending leaks cash.

Do not treat every Sibling line as an enemy. It may also mean collaboration, team share, or necessary cost. The relation is what matters: Sibling attacking an injured Wealth leans toward loss; Sibling helping Officer/Parents while Wealth is still generated may only mean “pay first, receive later.”

Also read the Self line. Self is your capacity and current state. A strong Self may absorb temporary Sibling turbulence; a weak, clashed, or empty Self turns the same money image into “looks profitable but cannot stay.” Gain and loss are never only about money; they are also about whether you can hold resources now.

4. Parents, Officer, and Offspring: put money back into real process

Wealth and Sibling alone are not enough. Modern money questions sit inside process, rules, and roles:

  • Parents line: contracts, invoices, approvals, bank notices, institutional rules. For “Will it arrive?” or “Can we sign?”, Parents often decides whether news and paperwork solidify. Strong Parents with weak Wealth may mean documents arrive but the sum shrinks; strong Wealth with empty Parents may mean verbal promise without written completion.
  • Officer-Ghost line: pressure, bosses, regulation, risk control, role responsibility — and often income tied to position. Officer generating Wealth and Self supports work-path money; Officer controlling Self may mean high-pressure roles, compliance risk, or too high a cost of responsibility.
  • Offspring line: relief, creativity, methods, execution, technical means. It can restrain Officer pressure and support project or sales motion; in some questions, excessive Offspring may also mark spending for pleasure. Read by context, not by fixed slogan.

Read the lines as one relation map: money (Wealth) from whom (Response / Officer / Parents), seized by whom (Sibling), received by you (Self), and whether process (Parents) is open. That is structural reading — positions and relations, not a wish for good news.

5. Practical scenes: receivables, investment, expenses, holding

Receivables / bonus / commission: Watch whether Wealth generates Self, whether Parents forms written process, and whether Response (payer or company) generates or combines with Self. Wealth moving to generate Self with Parents also moving often suggests process advancing. Sibling moving against Wealth, or Wealth retreating, suggests negotiation, collection work, or adjusted amount/timing.

Investment / speculation / large outlay: First check whether Self can hold a position; then whether Wealth is seized by Sibling or transforms to retreat/emptiness. The worst habit is reading desire as judgment. If the structure shows high loss risk, Liu Yao helps you see a “narrow path”: reduce size, delay, or split the decision — it does not guarantee market direction.

Unexpected loss / large spending: Watch Sibling strength against Wealth, injury to Wealth, and Officer-driven sudden pressure. Mild clash with a still-strong Self may be manageable expense; injured Self and Wealth with extreme Sibling strength favors cash conservation and delay of non-essentials.

In every scene, return to action: which document to chase, whom to renegotiate with, whether to set a stop-loss, whether to split a large decision. The hexagram is a profile of the situation, not a button that signs for you.

In short: Liu Yao wealth reading maps the structure of money; it does not promise riches. Incoming money needs Wealth to reach Self and process to form; loss needs Sibling seizure and Self injury; holding needs capacity to receive. Observe the structure first, then collect, wait, cut loss, or turn.
